ITAérea wants to congratulate our teacher, Rafael Jiménez Hoyos, for his recent appointment as the new CEO of the airline Level.

Promotion in the ranks of IAG. One of the key pieces on the Iberia management committee, Rafael Jiménez Hoyos, takes the position of CEO of the low-cost airline Level. The until now Production Director of Iberia has been chosen to lead Level in the midst of its growth process towards America.

Jiménez Hoyos signed for Iberia in 2013, when the company began to execute its transformation plan after harsh cuts. From his position he has participated in many negotiations with the company’s staff prior to the signing of agreements. Its mission from now on will be to consolidate Level as the first operator of long-haul flights in Barcelona-El Prat and reopen operations in Europe. The roadmap includes increasing from six to eight aircraft in 2026, and maintaining the double-digit operating margin.

Level, which was born as a response to Norwegian’s strategy with cheap long-haul flights, is in the process of obtaining its own Air Operator Certificate (AOC), depending until now on that of Iberia. The company links Barcelona with New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Boston, Santiago de Chile and Buenos Aires. Its offer is close to one million seats this year, which is practically doubling the figure offered in 2019.

The promotion of Rafael Jiménez Hoyos opens the door to the retirement of the also ITAérea professor, Fernando Candela, who has held positions such as CEO of LEVEL, president of Iberia, director of Transformation of IAG or CEO of Iberia Express.
