ITAérea Aeronautical Business School, committed to Sustainability in Air Transport
News
It is clear that it is no longer acceptable to manage the planet without thinking about sustainability. A company that incorporates sustainable concepts and policies into its culture will be more competitive and more prepared for the challenges of the market, in addition to being less polluting, more efficient, and having a better image and reputation facing the real and current world and future generations.
Sustainable environmental development has become one of the priority objectives for all air transport sectors such as airports, airlines, handling, air cargo, air navigation, aviation industry and international air law.
In this article we will describe the actions that ITAérea is undertaking to promote and to achieve the sustainability of the air transport, as we believe it is our reponsibility to meet the Sustainable Development Goals of United Nations’s 2030 Agenda. This is how ITAérea is contributing:
Índice
ITAérea adhered to the Spanish Network of the United Nations Global Compact
Launched in the year 2000, the United Nations Global Compact, is the largest sustainability initiative in the world. There are currently more than 19,000 affiliated entities in more than 160 countries and it has 70 local networks.
In Spain, more than 2,100 organizations have joined the initiative, making it the Local Network with the largest number of affiliated entities and, therefore, the most important in the world.
The initiative in Spain stands out for the number of adherents, the number of Communications on Progress (COP) or sustainability reports presented, in performance and in solutions for its partners.
Adhering to the Global Compact implies that ITAérea commits to align its operations with the Ten Universally Accepted Principles of UNGC in the areas of human rights, labor standards, the environment and the fight against corruption, and to adopt measures in support of the United Nations objectives, currently embodied in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
ITAérea has joined thousands of companies worldwide and is committed to carrying out responsible business/corporate actions to create the world we want.
Alliance between ITAérea and The United Nations Institute for Training and Research UNITAR
ITAérea Aeronautical Business School, UNITAR (the United Nations Institute for Training and Research) and CIFAL Mérida (International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders in Mérida) signed a trilateral agreement in November 2017 at the UN Palace of Nations in Geneva. The goal of this agreement was to develop a comprehensive training on air transport by fulfilling the sustainable development goals of the UN 2030 Agenda.
UNITAR joined a partnership whose historical background is a clear proof of the strong and fruitful relationship between ITAérea and CIFAL Mérida. The training programme for managers of the air transport sector is this partnership’s keystone since thanks to the agreement signed in 2013, 1808 professionals of the airport sector across Latin America have been trained so far.
The signing ceremony for the extension of the collaboration agreement between ITAérea Aeronautical Business School, UNITAR and CIFAL Mérida which was signed in Geneva took place on 16th May 2018 at the ITAérea headquarters in Madrid.

Dissemination of a sustainable development culture in air transport management
As part of the contents of all the ITAérea’s training programs curricula, we deliver several weekly live sessions focused on sustainable air transport management. Although the concept of sutainability is evolving, classically in order to declare any activity as sustainable, we need to analyse 3 different aspects: social, economic and environmental. Usually, the subjects and lectures delivered at ITAérea are focusing on the three aspects.
Regardless of the circumstances or geographical location of our students, live e-learning training gives them the possibility to connect to a virtual room with ITAérea students from anywhere in the world.
Students interact with each other and, of course, with our teachers, the epicenter of the virtual room. Therefore, debate at the highest level and interaction between people with a common goal and background are encouraged. The live sessions bring dynamism to the training, awakening the curiosity and motivation of the students by leaving the pre-established context. The possibilities of sharing multimedia resources are multiplying exponentially; ideas are exchanged quickly and effectively, time and travel is saved, etc.
These are some examples of live lectures delivered by our teachers, all of them top-level executives from the air transport sector:
- Sustainability in airports: the AENA case.
