ITAérea Aeronautical Business School and AFCAC Partner to Empower African Women and Youth in Aviation with the AWAYA Scholarship
News
Dakar, Madrid – March 8, 2025 – The African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) and ITAérea Aeronautical Business School are thrilled to announce the signing of a Memorandum
of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on advancing aviation education and empowering women and youth across the African continent.
As part of this landmark partnership, we are proud to introduce the AFCAC AWAYA Scholarship, an initiative designed to support African Women professionals and Youth in the aviation industry. Named after the African Women and Youth in Aviation (AWAYA), this initiative is led by a dynamic group of visionary women and youth leaders from across Africa, forming the AWAYA Executive Committee Steering Group.
This scholarship reflects our commitment to fostering gender equity and leadership in the aviation sector. The AWAYA Scholarship aims to provide targeted opportunities for talented women and youth pursuing careers in aviation.
ITAérea remains dedicated to promoting sustainable management practices within the aviation industry. Our Master’s degree program in sustainability in air transport, developed in collaboration with the United Nations and aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, equips professionals with the knowledge to drive sustainable growth in the airport and aeronautical sectors. This initiative aligns seamlessly with AFCAC’s vision for a more integrated and sustainable air transport system across Africa, and the AFCAC AWAYA Scholarship will amplify its impact by empowering women and youth to lead this transformation.
With the AFCAC AWAYA Scholarship, African women and youth will gain access to top-tier aviation education, financial support, and a strong professional network to accelerate their careers. By nurturing talent and fostering leadership, this program aims to create a lasting positive impact on the development of aviation in Africa.
This collaboration builds on ITAérea’s recent success in signing an MoU with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for Capacity Building and Implementation Support Cooperation. This agreement underscores ITAérea’s global leadership in aviation education and its dedication to supporting sustainable development in the industry.
Mr. José Ignacio Escudero Pérez, CEO of ITAérea Aeronautical Business School, shared his excitement about the partnership: “We are privileged to partner with AFCAC to champion the advancement of women and youth in aviation. The AFCAC AWAYA Scholarship is a powerful step toward inspiring and equipping African women and youth to shape the future of this vital industry.
Ms. Adefunke Adeyemi, Secretary General of AFCAC, highlighted the importance of this initiative: “This partnership underscores our dedication to building a sustainable and inclusive aviation sector in Africa. The AFCAC AWAYA Scholarship will empower women professionals and youth, fostering a new generation of leaders who will drive innovation and progress across the continent..”
